SHARE International Seminar Series
This seminar will present findings from the recent Nature Medicine study that combined data from over 160,000 adults in 40 countries, including participants from SHARE, to examine how lifelong environmental exposures shape the pace of aging.
Prof. Báez Buitrago will introduce a new “biobehavioural age gap” measure that reveals whether someone is ageing faster or slower than their chronological age and show how social, physical, and political environments influence this gap.
Emphasis will be placed on global differences, the predictive value of the measure for cognitive and functional decline, and how insights from our results can inform precision-prevention strategies and public health policies worldwide.
Sandra J. Báez Buitrago, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Neurosciences at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, and a Senior Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at the Global Brain Health Institute (Trinity College Dublin).
Her research focuses on brain ageing, dementia, and social neuroscience, with an emphasis on exposome-based approaches and the impact of social disadvantage.
