Polygenic associations with educational attainment

Project description
This study used a DNA-based polygenic index to examine how genetic associations with educational attainment varied between East and West Germany around the time of reunification. Analyzing data from 1,930 individuals in the SOEP-G[ene] cohort, the researchers found no difference in genetic associations before reunification, but a significant increase in East Germany afterward. This suggests a gene–environment interaction, as the change was specific to education and not observed for a control trait like height. The findings support theories that genetic influences on education become more pronounced in contexts with greater social and educational opportunities. Replication in larger datasets is recommended.
