Head of Survey Methodology
Michael Bergmann is an applied survey and data scientist with a PhD in social sciences. He is currently working as the Head of the Survey Methodology Unit for the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), where he is responsible for coordinating sampling and field monitoring in all 28 SHARE countries.
He also supports the methodological development of SHARE, including the implementation of a multi-mode survey design. His research interests lie in methods to improve the quality of social research data, including adaptive and responsive survey designs to mitigate non-response and attrition, investigating the impact of different interview modes on data quality in panel studies, and analysing interviewer behaviour. In terms of substantive research, he is particularly interested in issues of health and care needs in old age.
